The LLAMA\/NMRT New Leaders Discussion Group is scheduled to meet on Saturday June 25, from 4pm &#8211; 5:30pm.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\"><br \/>\nThe LLAMA\/NMRT New Leaders Discussion Group is an exciting new joint\u00a0 venture between LLAMA (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/divs\/llama\/index.cfm\">Library Leadership and Management Association<\/a>)\u00a0 and NMRT (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ala.org\/ala\/mgrps\/rts\/nmrt\/index.cfm\">New Members Round Table<\/a>). This newly created group is designed to provide opportunities for discussion and networking among new\u00a0 librarians, new members of LLAMA and\/or NMRT, librarians who are making\u00a0 career shifts, experienced leaders, and anyone interested in developing<br \/>\nleadership skills. \u00a0Discussion topics are chosen based on issues of\u00a0 interest to the members of the group.<\/p>\n<p>At this year\u2019s Annual conference, we are interested in topics focusing on\u00a0 \u201cDeveloping Leadership Skills for Early Career Librarians\u201d. We seek\u00a0 proposals for presentation that address this topic from a variety of<br \/>\nangles, including (but not limited to):<\/span><\/div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Developing leadership skills in library school. (It could be from a student or faculty perspective)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Leadership skills and experience employers look for. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Advice for career changers &#8211; transferring leadership skills from a different field.. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">What leadership skills should one develop early in the career? and how?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Early career leadership opportunities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Early career leadership development planning.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Transitioning from early career to mid-career. <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000\">We look for presenters to share their experience (it could either be a\u00a0 positive experience or a lesson learned), helpful tips, and advice on\u00a0 the topics. The presenter should plan to speak for about 7 -10 (max)\u00a0 minutes. The presenter is also expected to lead and facilitate a\u00a0 discussion group on their topic in the second half of the meeting. There will be approximately 30 minutes of presentations. After the\u00a0 presentations, we will break into small, rotating discussion groups to\u00a0 allow more in-depth discussions of the presentation topics and other\u00a0 theme related topics as determined by attendees\u2019 interests.<\/p>\n<p>Proposals are due by<strong> April 1, 2011.<\/strong> Notification of acceptance will be made <strong>by May 1.<\/strong> Please include the following information in your proposal:<\/p>\n<p>1. Your name, title, institutional affiliation (or LIS program), mailing address, phone number, and email address.<br \/>\n2. The title and a 200 word (max) description of your presentation. The\u00a0 description should clearly identify the topic of your presentation, your personal experience with this topic, and how it will contribute to the\u00a0 professional development of new and aspiring leaders.<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000\"><br \/>\nKeep in mind that there will be no use of technology for these presentations as they are meant to be informal in nature.
